Welcome to day three at the Mustang 50th Birthday Celebration in Charlotte, North Carolina. We’re battling rain today, but the Mustang-360.com Network Team is still hard at it, cruising the grounds and taking in the action.
As we pen this column (well…, punch the keys on our Mac), we’re digging up a multitude of interesting behind-the-scene stories.
Over the last few days, the Mustang-360.com team has been atop the Empire State Building in New York, out to Las Vegas, and trackside here in Charlotte. Right now, we’re in the show grounds capturing images and interviewing some of the greats such as Bill Ford Jr., Roush NASCAR Nationwide series driver Chris Buescher, Roush Racing driver Jack Roush Jr., Dario Orlando of Steeda, and Steve Saleen to name a few. We also participated in the Guinness World Record-setting Mustang cruise, which had over 1,000 Mustangs traveling in a serious pony train.
Yesterday, we toured Daniel Carpenter’s amazing facility, where many Mustang and Ford parts were being reproduced right in front of our eyes. Carpenter has much of Ford’s original tooling that’s used to make reproduction parts of the same quality that Ford built them.
In fact, we saw weather stripping, hubcaps, and fan shrouds pop from CNC and stamping presses—it was amazing to watch (you can read Modified Mustang and Ford’s Marc Christ’s full feature on our tour next week).
Out in the racing pits, Mustang Monthly editor Mark Houlahan is strapping in with Vaughn Gittin Jr. in his Ford Mustang for a rip around the Charlotte Motor Speedway road course (story and video to come tomorrow).
In addition, we’ve seen loads of the finest Mustangs money can build or buy, including classics, Foxes, SSP 5.0 Mustangs and two examples of the 2015 Mustang, including the special-edition 50th Anniversary Mustang. As you’d expect, every generation is covered. Furthermore, we’ve seen all the specialty Mustangs that enthusiasts lust after.
But what you really want is to see what’s going on so check out our photo gallery of the Mustang 50th Birthday Celebration.
